René Pape sings Wagner in Berlin

On February 26 and March 5 & 19, René Pape returns to the Staatsoper Berlin as Hermann, Landgrave of Thuringia in Wagner’s epic Tannhäuser. Simone Young conducts both performances, which feature Stage Direction and Choreography by Sasha Waltz. Burkhard Fritz sings the title role, with Marina Prudenskaya as Venus and Anne Schwanewilms as Elisabeth. This production was previously captured on a DVD/Blu-ray release, with Mr. Pape as Hermann. Pape performs with the Staatskapelle Berlin and Staatsopernchor on March 12 in a Wagner Gala Concert, led by Simone Young. Ms. Schwanewilms and Mr. Fritz also join for the performance, along with soprano Camilla Nylund, mezzo-soprano Waltraud Meier, and baritone Wolfgang Koch.
