Verdi Requiem with Berlin Philharmonic

On March 11, 12 and 13, René Pape will join the Berlin Philharmonic and the Berlin Radio Choir as the bass soloist in Verdi’s epic Messa da Requiem.

This setting of the Catholic funeral mass, which premiered in 1874, has become a standard in sacred music repertoire. The deeply moving work reflects many of the composer’s operatic compositions due to its wide range of dynamics, thrilling vocal and symphonic writing and its inclusion of a dramatic scena-like solo for the soprano.

The other spectacular soloists include soprano Elena Stikhina, mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili, and tenor Fabio Sartori under the baton of star conductor Daniel Barenboim.
