This summer, René Pape travels across Europe on a recital tour, in collaboration with pianist Camillo Radicke. This tour reprises their critically acclaimed program from last fall’s recital at The Metropolitan Opera, the first bass recital in 30 years at the house. The program includes works in four languages, with songs by Beethoven, Dvorák, Mussorgsky, and Quilter.<\/p>\n
Of his Met recital, Zachary Woolfe of The New York Times<\/a> stated: <\/p>\n “Mr. Pape is elegantly restrained, a natural storyteller who draws you in slowly and carefully, yet confidently, rarely grabbing you by the lapels but effective, nevertheless, at making you listen . . . His final encore, “If Ever I Would Leave You,” from Lerner and Loewe’s “Camelot,” summed up the recital: calm, burnished, decorous, gorgeous.<\/strong>” <\/p>\n They begin the tour on May 10<\/a> at Milan’s renowned Teatro alla Scala, and continue on May 29<\/a> at the Konzerthaus Dortmund, and June 8<\/a> at the Zurich Opera House.
