Dresden, which hosted the premieres of numerous Strauss operas within the composer&#8217;s lifetime, heads up the festivities with the first major opera production, <em>Elektra<\/em>, and maintains its century long tradition as an address to the world\u2019s finest music. Pape now brings his acclaimed Orest to Dresden audiences 105 years after the opera\u2019s original debut.<\/p>\n<p>Leading an outstanding cast, Ren\u00e9 Pape, whose \u201ephenomenal and enormous presence\u201c (KURIER) and \u201econcentrated vocally-thundering dominant Orest\u201c (DIE WELT)\u00a0 \u201conce again offers a first rate performance.\u201d (SALZBURGER NACHRICHTEN)<\/p>\n<p>The 20 minute standing ovation given by the Semperoper audience at the close of the premiere crowned this \u201eglorious start\u201c into the Richard Strauss Anniversary Year. The \u201cBlack diamond bass\u201d follows up this production of\u00a0<em>Elektra<\/em>\u00a0in his hometown with a visit to Zurich as Phillip II followed by performances of Sarastro and Landgraf in Berlin.
