Elektra album receives Grammy nomination!

The 2014 release of Richard Strauss’ Elektra on Deutsche Grammophon has been nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Opera Recording” category. René Pape is featured on this album as Orest, a role for which he has received much critical acclaim:

“The great bass René Pape was a vocal and dramatic giant in the role of Orest . . .”

Anthony Tommasini – The New York Times

Album Review:

“René Pape’s unbending tone and delivery skillfully paves the way for the final, terrifying scenes.”

Gavin Plumley – Sinfini Music

Evelyn Herlitzius sings Elektra and Waltraud Meier is Klytemnestra on this spectacular recording. Maestro Christians Thielemann, widely regarded as one of the finest Strauss interpreters of our time, leads the Staatskapelle Dresden on this album, which celebrates the sesquicentennial of Strauss’ birth from a live performance earlier this year at the Berlin Philharmonie.
