Mr. Pape sings Sarastro from Die Zauberflöte at the Bayerische Staatsoper

Mr. Pape stars in one of his signature roles, Sarastro from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, on July 6 and 8 at the Bayerische Staatsoper. He returns to the role after having sung Sarastro on many of the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Wiener Staatsoper, The Metropolitan Opera, Opéra National de Paris, and the Staatsoper Berlin. Hailed as “a commanding presence” (New York Classical Review) and “stupendous” (The New York Times), Pape has been featured in the role several times on recordings. His discography includes DVD/Blu-ray releases from the Salzburg Festival and The Metropolitan Opera, and a CD conducted by Claudio Abbado.

In this Bayerische Staatsoper production by August Everding, Mr. Pape sings alongside Matthew Polenzani as Tamino, Hanna Elisabeth Müller as Pamina, Olga Pudova as the Königin der Nacht, Michael Nagy as Papageno, and Paula Iancic as Papagena, with conductor Asher Fisch leading from the pit.
