To reopen the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the baritone René Pape sings Mephistopheles in Robert Schumann’s “Scenes from Goethe’s Faust”. He stands on the stage of the opera house where his singing career began. While the bass has been on the road all over the world, he has, at the same time, remained loyal to the Staatsoper as his home.
