‘Elektra’ and ‘Turandot’ at Staatsoper Berlin

This June and July, René Pape will return to Staatsoper Berlin as Orest in Strauss’ Elektra and Timur in Puccini’s Turandot.

Led by Thomas Guggeis at the podium, Patrice Chéreau’s acclaimed production of Strauss’ one-act opera will also feature Waltraud Meier as Klytaemnestra, Ricarda Merbeth as Elektra, Vida Miknevičiūtė as Chrysothemis, Gerhard Siegel as Aegisth, David Wakeham as Orest’s Tutor, Renate Behle as Overseer and Confidante, Natalia Skrycka as Trainbearer, Florian Hoffmann as Young Servant, Olaf Bär as Old Servant and Bonita Hyman, Natalia Skrycka, Katharina Kammerloher, Anna Samuil, and Roberta Alexander as the maids, led by Thomas Guggeis at the podium. Performances will take place on June 6, 11, 15, 19, 24.

An innovative, new production of Turandot by Philipp Stölzl will be performed on June 18, 22, 25, 29, July 3, 8, and 10. Joining Mr. Pape in this thrilling cast will be Elena Pankratova as Princess Turandot, Siegfried Jerusalem as Emperor Altoum, Yusif Eyvazov as Calaf, Aida Garifullina as Liù, Gyula Orendt as Ping, Andrés Moreno García as Pang, Siyabonga Maqungo as Pong, David Oštrek as A Mandarin,  under the baton of Zubin Mehta. A video recording of the June 18 performance will be available to stream on arte.tv from July 19 to 21, 2022.
