An exciting beginning to 2019!

From January 24 until February 1, René Pape stars as König Menes in a new production of T.H.A.M.O.S., which plays at the Summer Riding School in Salzburg. Based on Mozart’s Thamos, King in Egypt, this version by Carlus Padrissa features selected arias from Die Zauberflöte and Zaide, among others. He’s joined by Fatma Said as Tharsis and Nuttaporn Thammathi as Thamos, and Alondra de la Parra leading the orchestra.

Alternating performances with T.H.A.M.O.S., he also appears as Orest in Berlin from January 27 until February 24. This production by Patrice Chéreau of Richard Strauss’ Elektra has Daniel Barenboim on the podium, Evelyn Herlitzius in the title role, Waltraud Meier as Klytämnestra, Vida Miknevičiūtė as Chysothemis and Stephan Rügamer as Aegisth.

Before the run of Elektra is over, he travels to Dresden to sing the bass solo in Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, on
February 13 and 14 at the Staatskapelle Dresden and at the Frauenkirche on February 15 . The other soloists are Venera Gimadieva, Elisabeth Kulman and Pavol Breslik, with Christoph Eschenbach conducting.
