Dvořák’s ‘Stabat Mater’ with the Staatskapelle Dresden this season

René Pape sings the bass soloist in Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Staatskapelle Dresden on February 13, 14 & 15. Under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, Mr. Pape will share the stage with a glowing roster of artists including soprano Venera Gimadieva, alto Elisabeth Kulman, and tenor Pavol Breslik. Performances on February 13 & 14 will be held at the Semperoper and on February 15 at the Frauenkirche.

Bachtrack heralded Pape for his performance of Stabat Mater with the Czech Philharmonic in 2017 saying: “Among the soloists, Pape made the strongest impression, his deep mahogany timbre serving as a foundation for the quartet of voices, and anyone used to hearing him sing stereotypically dark roles like Mefistofele would have been surprised by the tenderness in his voice.”

Mr. Pape will reprise the bass soloist in Stabat Mater later this season on April 16 & 19, part of the Osterfestspiele Salzburg. Mr. Eschenbach leads the Staatskapelle Dresden, which has been orchestra in residence at the festival since 2013.
